Iceland 6/08

iceland was by far the most beautiful and interesting landscape i have ever witnessed. possibly because it was so unfamiliar and so untouched by man. a lot of my work centers around man's dominance over nature and the subsequent nature taking back over but here it was all nature. it was awe inspiring for me, just not to see an abundance of advertisements, postings, and even just road signs. there is one highway that goes around the whole island. the country is also covered with gorgeous purple lupine and natural wonders just on the side of the one highway. lots of waterfalls, mossy lavafields, hot springs, glaciers, rock formations, black sand beaches...i was also here in summer when it was 24 hours of daylight. the sun starts to go down and has this orangey sunset and then literally skims the horizonline and then around 3am starts to rise back up with that bluish early morning cast. also in the city after months of winter darkness, the people go crazy when its summer again so the bars are open until 6am and the streets are like a big block party.
